Ethan Michael Sorenson was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, within a devout Mormon family. As a child, Ethan immersed himself in the teachings of his church and excelled in the Boy Scouts, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout by the age of 17. After graduating high school, Ethan attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, majoring in law.

Ethan’s promising legal career led him to the FBI, where his expertise was quickly utilized in operations that had extensive legal hurdles. However, during one such operation, Ethan was inadvertently exposed to anomalous phenomena, necessitating his transfer to the Unusual Incidents Unit (UIU). Within the UIU, it soon became apparent that while Ethan’s legal knowledge was invaluable, he lacked the investigative skills and practical experience needed for the unit's field operations.

To address this gap, Ethan was reassigned to Twin Pines, Alaska.​
