Three-way Controllable Micro-Magnet - Upscaled Prototype Development

Objectives:


The Three-way Controllable Micro Magnet (TCMM), is planned to be a device capable of attracting others of its kind in 3 different directions, allowing it to form complex organic-like arrangements with strong bonds. The purpose of this experiment is to develop an upscaled prototype to serve as a model and eventually be downscaled to the microscopic size.

Equipment Used:

- Research Bay Computer
- 1x Circuit Board
- 1x Lithium Battery
- 3x Common Eletromagnet
- Wiring

Experiment Description:

Firstly, the Research Bay Computer was used to model and generate a digital blueprint of the prototype. Using a blueprint software, the schematics for the initial design were complete and the assembly proccess was planned out.
Secondly, once the materials were gathered, the Circuit Board was configured to distribute current in 3 different directions based on user input. Afterwards, the 3 Eletromagnets and the Battery were both connected to the Board, which was in turn connected to the Computer. Small adjustments had to be made along the test to ensure the circuit was working properly.
Once the circuit was assembled, the base functionality of the magnets was tested used a coin. At first, the magnets appeared to not work, however, after restarting the system, it worked properly. Afterwards, the functionality that allows the user to control the intensity of each magnet was tested, by changing the configuration and then testing using the same coin. After a few adjustments and small changes, everything appeared to work properly. At that point, the experiment was considered concluded, and the project may continue further into the downscaling phase.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the TCMM Development Project shows promise and may continue its development, proceeding into the downscaling phase over the next few days. Furthermore, an important next step is the development of a suitable outer cage to protect the electronic materials.
